Our Commitment to Sustainability
Asphalt pavements, that have been removed, are hauled back to our asphalt manufacturing facilities to be crushed and screened to size. When the old asphalt has been processed to specification, it is then blended back into new the new mixture in precise proportions reducing the need for virgin aggregates and liquid asphalt. The old material does not end up being wasted or taking up space in a landfill.
Clean, broken concrete removed from jobsites is also returned to our manufacturing facility to be crushed and screened to specification. Once that material has been processed, it can be used as base material for either new asphalt or concrete pavements. Again, this process greatly reduces waste in landfills and the need for virgin aggregates.
K-Five takes great pride in keeping its manufacturing facilities looking and operating as clean as possible. Our plants use the latest technology to extract most of the dust from the plants emissions. The dust is captured and returned to the new asphalt mixture rather than being exhausted. What you see coming from an asphalt plant is steam and very little dust. Our company pride shows by keeping our plant sites very clean. The result of our efforts has been recognized by The National Asphalt Pavement Association.
We are committed to developing an environmental conscience throughout the industry while designing and building sustainable infrastructure. We are a member of the Illinois Road & Transportation Builders Association Sustainability Council, to continue to work with other to create a more sustainable transportation community.
